Media Highlights

I’ve been fortunate to have a multitude of experiences across many sports at all levels. There are to many highlights to list but some of the more notable include working with the Seattle Seahawks for the last 14 seasons, and having the opportunity to be sideline through all the highs and lows, including the highest high in football, winning Super Bowl XLVIII. Being a part of the British Track and Field team in the build up to the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games is another highlight. The Pinacle of that experience was the team winning 3 gold medals in 45 minutes on the opening night of competition on the track. The date now recognized as a national holiday, dubbed “Super Saturday.”

Greg Rutherford’s Olympic Gold Medal

Greg Rutherford’s Olympic Gold Medal. Greg was always the kid with a ton of potential but suffered a litany of injuries. This medal was both completion of a long journey, and the start of brilliant string of dominance for Greg (he is now the riegning Olympic, World, European, Commonwealth, and Diamond League Champion).

The Superbowl

The Super Bowl. Having worked with the Seahawks organization for 14 years, experiencing the highs and lows, it was an absolute thrill to part of the 2013 NFL Super Bowl Champion Seahawks winning season.

My career has taken me to 3 Olympic Games (Athens, Beijing, London), 4 IIAF World Championships (Paris, Helsinki, Osaka, Deagu), and a number of Commonwealth, Pan American, and Francophone Games. Track and Field is truly a global sport. Working with track athletes has lead to experiences around the globe. I’ve had the opportunity to get to know many personalities in sports and entertainment. From the Seahawks “Beast Mode” Marshawn Lynch to Larry Mullen of U2.

If you have followed the ALTIS Twitter feed and read Facebook posts or other articles on this blog, you have likely seen the term “Performance Therapy,” with some description of how therapists are integrated into the training environment. But what is really meant by Performance Therapy? Is it a case of simply having treatment provided trackside, or is there a rationale or process by which the types and timings of inputs are governed?… Click to Read More

After a disappointing sixth place finish in the World Cup — largely due his team’s inability to score — head coach John Herdman had questions than needed answering. How could he get more out of his team, especially on offense? And what could he be doing differently? “I knew after the World Cup I had some deep reflection to do,” said Herdman, speaking on the sidelines of the pitch at the Fortius Centre in Burnaby where Team Canada is currently training… Click to Read More

When Burnaby chiropractor Gerry Ramogida saw a 30 second TV clip of legendary San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana getting a chiropractic adjustment on the sidelines of the 1989 Super Bowl – his destiny was sealed. A former B.C. high school quarterback, Ramogida had already had his sights on a career in sports medicine. Watching that video clip gave him the decisive nudge toward chiropractic. “I was like, ‘Whoa, that’s cool,’” he told the NOW. Cool as it is to watch, it’s even cooler to be there – and Ramogida should know… Click to Read More

Not long after the 2012 London Olympics, I spoke with a top UK athlete and he asked me how Greg Rutherford stayed healthy to win Olympic long jump gold. I knew Rutherford’s coach was the highly respected Dan Pfaff, but I didn’t know the whole story. All athletes suffer injuries, but Rutherford is one that has been badly affected by hamstring issues and these have been well chronicled. He has also sought the use of hyperbaric chambers – they may help with recovery, but they certainly don’t prevent injuries…. Click to Read More

Ricketts back in the Saddle – A return to the Premiership and his work with Dr. Ramogida

As the son of former world showjumping champion Derek Ricketts and nephew of legendary jockey John Francome, Bolton’s Sam Ricketts is used to the concept of clearing obstacles. Thankfully, he is now over his biggest hurdle after making a successful comeback from the major Achilles tendon injury he suffered 11 months ago. The 30-year-old Wales international never lost faith while injured and working under the guidance of UK Athletics’ Performance Therapist Gerry Ramogida, Ricketts’ career is happily back on track again… Click to Read More

Olympic influence for Wolves’ Sam Ricketts – Comments on his career and getting better with lessons learned from Dr. Ramogida.

Only this week, head coach Kenny Jackett confidently said Ricketts, who is 32, can play all the way through his 30s as he backed him to win a contract extension when his current deal expires next June. Like his evergreen former Wales team-mate Ryan Giggs, Ricketts is a shining example of anyone wanting to maximise their careers. Click to Read More

If Sam Ricketts appears to have an extra spring in his step these days it’s not just because he is in a rush to make up for lost time. The Wales international has returned to ‘Wanderers’ Premiership survival mission determined to pick up where he left off last February, when he was stopped in his tracks by an Achilles tendon injury. Click to Read More

What is weakness, anyway? – A guest-post from Dr Gerry Ramogida

What would you do in this situation? It becomes evident (either through muscle testing or observation) that a muscle is not ‘firing’ as well as it should be. A typical scenario that we often find is that the ‘gluts have shut off’. Or the TVA. Or – my favorite in the UK – the soleus… Click to Read More

Ramogida will be getting on a plane Sunday with the Seahawks, so he can be with the team all next week as they prepare for their Super Bowl showdown with the New England Patriots. His only hope is that it’s less stressful thanlast week. “Being on the sideline was a special experience, [but] I don’t think my heart can take another nailbiter like that,” he says… Click to Read More

The announcer in the stadium caused a rapturous response from the crowd when he suggested before the start of the session that there could be two gold medals for Great Britain that evening. Obviously he had thought about Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah.
